Shrubs are a key ingredient in most landscapes and are often planted near the home's foundation. There are many different choices depending upon the intended use of the plant. Flowering types, such as Butterfly Bush and Lilac, can attract birds, butterflies or wildlife. Hydrangeas and Viburnum will provide large blooms, long lasting color, and are beautiful in fresh or dried flower arrangements. Evergreens, such as Arborvitae and Boxwood, make wonderful short or tall hedges for privacy, formalization, or to line a pathway. New varieties of Roses have excellent disease resistance, long bloom periods, and come in a plethora of colors.
